SUMMARY

Worker Awareness Training is a great way to promote a healthy safety culture and improve communication within the Internal Responsibility System that will help reduce incidents, injuries, illness and fatalities in Ontario workplaces.
 
This course is designed to give participants a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities of workplace parties under the Occupational Health & Safety Act. Emphasis is put on the rights and duties of workers, positive communication skills, safety culture and the Internal Responsibility System (IRS)

Workers, JHSC members, and Safety Representatives
 
LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this course participants will be able to:

 

  • Identify duties and rights of workers under the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Identify duties of employers, supervisors and workers under the OHSA
  • Explain Roles of Joint Health & Safety Committees (JHSC)
  • Explain the role of a Worker Health and Safety Representative under OSHA
  • Explain the roles of the Ministry of Labour and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board
  • Describe the roles of other entities under OHSA Section 22.5
  • Identify common workplace hazards
  • Describe the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) regulation
  • Describe occupational illness including latency O. Reg 297/13, s. 1 (3)
  • Discuss the Internal Responsibility System
  • Explain the benefits of a healthy safety culture
